Best Things I Ate in D.C.

Over the summer we went to Washington D.C.! It was the best and one of my favorite trips. The trip was a birthday present to me from my boyfriend Jon. He was able to keep the location a secret until about a week before the trip (although the goal was when we got there :p).

The two actual best things I ate, I did not take pictures of. Fail. I was having a bomb-ass time and was distracted. They were both burgers- one was the Michelle Melt from Good Stuff Eatery, a turkey burger with herbed mayo and caramelized onions on a multigrain bun. Jon got the Prez Obama burger, it’s companion, which was a regular beef burger with onion marmalade, bacon, horseradish mayo, and Roquefort cheese. Very sad to not have taken a picture of these, but we carried them in a bag while riding electric scooters back to our hotel so 1.) they were no longer photo-ready when we got ready to eat them and 2.) we were pissed off and ready to be already eating. Those electric scooter things were hard for me to ride and the brand we were using at the time, more than any other brand we used during the trip, was uncomfortable and also somehow caused me bruises. We also didn’t find out until we got to the restaurant that you couldn’t leave the scooter there, because it was ~out of the service zone~. That meant that we had to keep them with us while ordering and then waiting for our food, racking up minutes the whole time and ending up with bills of almost $20 at the end. Bleh.

The other best thing, and other burger, was the salmon burger in the top right corner of this photo. Lol. At least someone remembered to take a picture of this meal (thank u, Jon, I love u). We walked to Clyde’s of Georgetown from our hotel, across the bridge in Arlington. He had a french dip sandwich and a caesar salad, which he did quite enjoy. This salmon burger tho. This is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten and I still think about it sometimes. I can’t wait to go back to D.C. because the vibes is amazing and there’s so much to do and also I need to have this sandwich again I’m literally dying without it oh god please help me.

I found the restaurant above, Ted’s Bulletin, through Instagram, looking for a cute breakfast. It was awesome! The atmosphere is 1920s style and very fun but classy. You can see touches of that vibe in this pics, the second of which features me pouting, I assume over not being able to decide between two lovely-looking food items.

Here was my breakfast of scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, chicken sausage links, and the main feature/reason I came here, a Ted’s Tart. I chose blueberry cheesecake and it was as beautiful as expected. 10/10 both to look at and to eat. They rotate flavors, and I definitely want to go during fall or Holiday time (aka the seasons with the BEST seasonal flavors).

I also have since tried making my own ~tarts~ with pie crust, jam, and cream cheese icing. Good. Recommend trying.

Jon got a sausage and bacon breakfast sandwich which smelled and looked very delicious and which he did enjoy.

You know I also had treats. Who the heck would I be without baked goods? Here is a beautiful 4th of July cupcake from Magnolia Bakery (went to the Union Station location). SUPER delish. I had vanilla and it was super flavorful but also super sweet and I very much liked it. Jon had a chocolate one which he very much liked as well.

I also had to have shave ice every day because it was a million degrees (or 90, not sure, but definitely one or the other). The streets were lined with ice cream trucks so this was very easy to find whenever it was needed. I appreciated the huge flavor selections- they had all my favorite stuff. The one on the left was cotton candy (extremely adorable) and the one on the right was watermelon (matched my nails).

D.C. was a very lovely time and I ate a ton of amazing food. I love the vibe of this city so much, and makes a great quick trip because of all the free stuff to do. We did do a few paid things, like the Newseum and the Spy Museum, and they were super worth it imo.

Hope this post was entertaining and at least a little interesting! I’ve been trying to stick to a once-a-week schedule with new posts on Mondays. It’s Wednesday now, so this is an oopsie! I actually just started a new job this week and am getting ready for Christmas. (Excuses, excuses!)
