Woo hoo so exciting! I was in the mood to make cupcakes the other day, and wanted to use some theme park inspiration, of course. I ended up deciding to make chocolate cupcakes topped with Grey Stuff, from Disney’s Be Our Guest restaurant (but first from the Be Our Guest number in Beauty and the Beast). This was my first time making cupcakes from scratch and they genuinely turned out amazing. I used this recipe from a baking recipe blog and it was perfect. I usually tweak my baking recipes after making them the first time, but there’s nothing I would change about this one!

The Grey Stuff itself is pretty easy to make, but a bit time consuming. The official Disney Parks blog posted a recipe which they say is “inspired by” what’s served in the park, so it’s probably not exactly the same. Unfortunately I’ve never been to Be Our Guest so I can’t say how similar it is! I hope to visit for lunch on a future Magic Kingdom trip, though. To make it, you combine vanilla pudding (already made from a small box and set for about an hour) with a regular-size (8 oz) tub of whipped cream, 3 tablespoons of chocolate pudding mix, and one pureed sleeve of Oreos. Tip: blend those Oreos in your food processor for longer than you think. I still had a couple chunks that were a bit too big to come out of my piping tip, and that caused some issues later (and by issues I mean less-than-pretty cupcakes).

Above you can see my finished Grey Stuff. You might be able to spy a couple bigger Oreo chunks, which I do regret. You want your Oreo puree as smooth as possible!! It looks gross but is as delicious as you’d imagine Oreo pudding mixed with whipped cream to be. I had a ton leftover after piping plenty on top of a dozen cupcakes, so I spent a few days eating this with a spoon. That, I don’t regret.

The mixture is thin, so it wasn’t the easiest to pipe. Maybe it would’ve been more firm if I’d left the finished product in the fridge for an hour rather than 30 minutes before attempting to top the cakes. I might try that next time! I did have a few dud cupcakes, due both to Oreo chunks and to a learning curve in piping something more pudding-like than frosting-like, but plenty of them turned out to be perfectly presentable. I picked the four that I thought were the prettiest for this picture. 🙂 If you did a push-up for every “p” in this paragraph, you would be exhausted but get totally ripped.

To finish I topped the cupcakes with these gorgeous metallic fancy sprinkles from Sweet Tooth Fairy. I’m very proud of my Grey Stuff cupcakes, and they were VERY delicious!!
