2020 is Over

As I know we are all 100% extremely aware of, 2020 is over. With that comes a bit of hope, though things are certainly not getting back to normal super soon. I am, however, starting to feel more comfortable with the idea of planning travels!

I’ve been sort of holding off, because every month of last year taught us that you can’t count on anything. We weren’t sure when this thing was gonna end, even though some people swore it’d be last April, then last August, then 12:00:00AM on January 1st, 2021. With a vaccine beginning to make rounds, we’re starting to see a light at the end of this very long tunnel. Or at least, it’s easier to hope that’s the case!

I’ll stop being a downer. LOL. I left the blog for a few months because I didn’t want to be a downer here talking about nothing but the worst thought’s going through everyone’s heads. I’m here because, as I’d mentioned, I’m ready to start planning travels! I’m not making too many plans for 2021. No way. We’re taking it slow and playing it safe. That’s the kinda person I am 🙂

It seems it’d be safe to drive to a semi-near city, stay two nights in a hotel, and do things like get takeout and walk through parks. We miss tf out of Chicago, so I really want to do this there in March or April. There should be slightly less cases as we’ll be coming out of winter and more folks will be getting their vaccines. It also feels safe that we’ll be driving rather than flying, and getting takeout for either the hotel (we’ll definitely shoot for one with a good view) or Millennium Park, and just walk around the city (masked, obvs).

We’ll return to a theme park when we’re completely vaccinated. We might be able to by the end of summer, but that’s a busier travel time and I feel that once most people are vaccinated, theme park capacity will completely blow up. Universal Orlando’s Jurassic World Velocicoaster should open this summer, and EPCOT’s Remi’s Ratatouille Adventure shuld open some time this year. I also still haven’t been to Galaxy’s Edge!! There are plenty of reasons for me to get my ass to Florida as soon as possible, but to be safest, we’re aiming for December or January. We’ll probably visit Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and maybe EPCOT if the France expansion is open. It’ll be a mixed trip, which will bring some fun new things back to this blog!

Making it through 2020 is something to celebrate. Many folks weren’t so lucky. I’m absolutely looking forward to things looking a little bright every few weeks as new batches of folks finish their vaccinations, community spread slows to a near-halt, and people can go do the things that bring them joy. I know it’s not guaranteed, but I hope we get really close by the end of 2021.
