I got kinda tired of eating the same like five or six things I was making for dinner on rotation, wanted to try new things, wanted some fresh healthy options, and found a coupon code. So I tried HelloFresh! I used the meal kit delivery service for the whole three weeks of the coupon I found (and I’ll be trying a different service next). Below are some pics of what I made, plus my overall thoughts on the service!

Above is the first recipe I made (Creamy Dill Chicken). I forgot to take a picture when it was done because I was so excited to eat it! It was delish. Jon said it was like the best sauce he’d ever had.
The veggie meal I chose for this week was Sweet Potato and Poblano Quesadillas. I’d never tried poblanos or radishes before this!! That was a cool feature of this meal (and of the whole meal kit- new foods prepared in ways that were totally up my alley). This was good! I would’ve never thought to use sweet potatoes this way, but apparently HelloFresh is all about it. A few weeks later we also had Sweet Potato Fajitas, which were good but not as good as this. Not quite as flavorful, honestly.

The menu was mostly awesome, but for some reason the last week was a little bit disappointing. Two of the three meals were just okay. They weren’t bad!! Just not as delicious as the brand had led me to expect. That includes those Sweet Potato Fajitas, as well as the Hot Honey Chicken with BBQ Potatoes pictured above.

The star of that final week, above, was the Lone Star Chicken and Rice Bowls with Smoky Red Pepper Crema. That was so yummy! HOWEVER, it was disappointing that it was the only one that couldn’t easily be recreated. Most of the recipes were just produce and basic ingredients but this one included both a sauce base “tex mex paste” and a totally pre-produced red pepper crema. To make this again I’d have to go out and search for dupes or pull up a whole other recipe to make them to use in this recipe.
Below are my absolute favorite things that I made with the meal kits.
I did overall like my experience with HelloFresh! I’m curious to see how other meal kit delivery services compare. I’ll post about those too! I’m also planning to try to use these recipes with grocery store ingredients and compare the cost and see if there’s any sort of notable difference. It’s such a blog thing to start every sentence in a whole paragraph with some form of “I”!!
The best things about this were how convenient it was, how quick the meals were to make, how YUMMY and modern/creative they felt, and that it got me excited to make dinner and not have the urge to order food from restaurants. I’m gonna throw in some pictures of the recipes and ingredients next to the finish product because I think that it looks cool!

I hope this was interesting!! If anyone reading this has any thoughts or has tried a meal kit delivery service before it would be so sweet of you to comment.
